Welcome to the blogosphere, G.F.!

Alex and I headed to Philly to meet up with some old friends. Alex had a conference at U Penn. Something academic about ethnography :) I pretended I was a jet setter and flew down for Saturday night. Within less than 24 hours, we hung with Junior, Jenny's brother. He's going down to San Salvador to visit the fam before they move back to Boston (yay!!!!!) Junior works for the Clean Air Council, became a vegetarian, and is studying to become a yoga instructor. We had dinner with Patrick of Grubstake, chilled with Brett, who's now the general manager of Marigold Kitchen (we didn't get a chance to eat there, which I still feel bad about but we will next time), and had brunch with Annie & Jason, whom we hadn't seen since our wedding. Crazy how 2 1/2 years can fly by so quickly.

Melissas all around

I have a pretty common name. In fact, during the 1970s Melissa was ranked 3rd in terms of popularity for baby names -- type any name in to see its popularity. I've been pretty fortunate though with not having classmates or too many friends with my name. I have a cousin Alissa, which was cool when we were younger. We called ourselves the Lissas. And I really didn't have a friend named Melissa until I met G.F. at Tufts. I have met, virtually, another Melissa Dodd who's my age. She beat me to melissadodd.com and given her work in the entertainment industry she always comes up first when you Goggle my name.

So, today was a rarity for me. I went to Kiehl's this morning to pick up my favorites and the woman working the counter was named Melissa. I then stopped off at H&M to pick up some shirts for work. And wouldn't you know it but the girl working at the counter was also named Melissa. Her response when I shared my day with her was just, "weird." Maybe she has more friends named Melissa than I do. Needless to say, I called Melissa (G.F.) and left her a voicemail to share my experience. She'll appreciate it.

Lazy Sunday...

Ever since I saw the digital short back in December I find myself humming the "d*#k in a box" song from time to time -- sitting at my desk at work, on the chairlift, while getting dinner ready. And it keeps coming up in conversation. I was shocked to learn that our friends up in Killington had never even seen the video. I had promised myself a weekend disconnected from the web but I just couldn't resist. And then the other night I learned that a colleague has it downloaded on his computer. I know where I'll be hanging out when I need a few minutes away from the 2nd floor.

Last night the video came up again at dinner with our friend Josh. He introduced me to all of the other digital shorts that SNL have done. I feel the need to get some background info on them but I have to say that I'm lovin' Andy Samberg these days. The smile one is a trip, as is lazy sunday. As I settled down on the couch last night to veg and fall asleep in front of the t.v. guess which episode of SNL was on? I was ecstatic to see JT's name. I made Alex watch it one more time with me. And while he says that it gets old, I did hear a little chuckle from him.

Check out NBC to see all of the digital shorts -- you can even watched the unsensored version for JT and Andy. I think I might just have to watch it again...

Catching up on life...

I'm not quite sure where the weeks go but between work, desperately trying to get to the gym at least 2 times a week (still working on that one :)) and a little yoga here and there, I don't seem to have enough time to connect with friends from afar -- or even keep the blog up to date.

The new year started off with a ton of travel, as usual - the beaconers visited from san salvador. We had nearly two weeks of fun and babies. Alex and I then headed to Vegas for Meg & Hector's wedding. I was then off to Florida to visit the fam -- and the newest member of the Dodd clan, Hannah. We then had a great ski weekend -- see the posts below. The spring is shaping up to be a busy travel time as well -- although that's not all tha surprising for us. We've got a trip to Philly for a conference planned -- I should email Lee & Annie; Alex is heading to Vegas and Northern Cali; I'll be in San Fran for a conference and to see Rosa and her family at the end of the March. And we need to schedule a visit to Cleveland to see Josie and Conor after she takes the Bar.

And then there's Ireland in May. On our ski weekend in Killington we met Brendan from Dublin. He was in Chad's ski lesson group. He ended up having lunch and drinks with us, and then we invited him to dinner. We got his info to meet up for a pint when we're in Dublin. We were telling GF and GFH the story last night at dinner. I guess Alex and I have a reputation for making international friends, according to Josh (who should talk since he's living in Trinidad & Tobago). What I can say. Maybe Alex and I were born on the wrong continent...

I posted a bunch of photos from the first week of January on Flickr -- slowly making my way through the month. A.J. do you have any fotos from December? I still find myself humming along to d*ck in a box. And Alex encountered some folks on the chair lift the other weekend doing the same!

Gettin' Some Freshies...
Alex and I braved the cold this weekend and headed off to Killington to ski with Deb, Mike, Julie, and Chad. The trip up north was pretty treacherous but we all made it safely to the condo--albeit a little later than planned.

The weekend was a blast-- yes, I know, it's shocking that I actually enjoyed myself in the cold. And we were with great friends which made it all the more enjoyable. We're even talking about going skiing again!! Chad made a friend on his lesson -- Brendan from Dublin. We ended up spending the afternoon with him and invited him over for fondue for dinner. Alex and I plan on ringing him when we're in Dublin this summer to meet up for a pint. I love experiences like that!

The last time I went skiing was back in 2000 with A.J. and crew during our winter break from teaching in Spain -- it's been a while. I know I have a picture of that trip someplace.
Alex got some great shots and video clips. I'll get those posted soon. Thanks Deb for organizing the trip! Let's do it again.

the beacon bee was on a little hiatus due to some acount issues but we're back. Luckily, Alex has been keeping up with things on the cold front.
